At Gentle Biodentistry, we can perform a sinus lift procedure in order to prepare you for dental implants. We have found that most of our 91307patients are unfamiliar with sinus augmentation and why it is necessary. To find out if you need one, call (818) 883-7031 and schedule an appointment with our West Hills dental office. In the meantime, here are a few frequently asked questions and our answers to them.

What is a sinus lift?

This is a procedure to give you additional bone in your upper jaw. As a 91307 oral surgeon, we perform this procedure under anesthesia by lifting the sinus membrane and depositing a bone graft. Your jaw and gums will be sensitive afterward, but by taking ibuprofen and applying ice, you can keep any swelling and discomfort easily under control.

Why is bone grafting necessary?

After tooth loss, your jaw will begin to suffer from resorption as the calcium is taken from the jaw for use elsewhere in the body. As a West Hills oral surgeon, we complete a bone grafting procedure in order to restore the jawbone. It must be dense enough to support or hold the titanium post we are implanting. Think of it like a screw being placed into a piece of wood. If the wood is too thin, the screw will either split it or poke through the other side. In a similar fashion, we would not want to insert a titanium post into a portion of your jawbone that was not dense enough to support it.

Can I get dental implants without a sinus augmentation?

Yes, sinus augmentation is not always necessary. You may have enough bone density to support dental implants, but we will not know for sure until we examine you. Also, we can discuss alternative solutions like implant supported dentures if you would prefer to avoid this additional surgery.

Schedule an Appointment With an Oral Surgeon Today

If you are concerned that you may need to have a bone grafting procedure, call (818) 883-7031 and schedule an appointment with our West Hills, CA dental office. We will examine you and take x-rays before letting you know if it appears that you do not have sufficient bone density for the implant procedure. If this is the case, we will recommend a sinus lift and discuss the process with you in further detail.
